In June 2005, Halff Associates, Inc. was selected by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to produce county-wide Digital Flood Insurance Rate Map panels (DFIRMs) for Bell County as part of the FEMA nationwide Map Modernization Program.

The Flood Insurance Study will include re-mapping of the flooded areas identified on the effective Flood Insurance Rate (FIRM) maps for all incorporated and unincorporated regions of Bell County. DFIRMs will eventually replace the current FIRMs and will include GIS databaseinformation related to the underlying base maps and technical data, although paper copies of the FIRMs will still be available for use.

The study will update approximately 705 miles of Zone A study streams, redelineation of approximately 473 miles of Zone AE study streams, and incorporate 57 miles of detailed studies finalized from the 2002 “Partial” Bell County Flood Insurance Re-Study and the 2005 City of Killeen Study.
